Lulu Presents ‘Stitch’
Wednesday, May 5th, 2010Join us Thursday, May 13th, 7:30pm (come early! 6pm stitchery display and sale; 6:45pm artists’ chat), at the Gabriola Community Hall, as Lulu presents Stitch, an a cappella opera for three women and three sewing machines featuring three of Canada’s top vocalists: Neema Bickersteth, Christine Duncan, and Patricia O’Callaghan, with music by Juliet Palmer and text by Anna Chatterton.

Stitch
From the abuse of the sweatshop to the fantasy of costume and the empowerment of sewing-it-yourself, the sewing machine has been a force for liberation and exploitation since its invention in the 19th century. Anchored in the sounds and rhythms of sewing, Stitch uncovers the emotional layers of the relationship between woman and barely-tamed machine.
Advance tickets for Stitch are $18; door $22; youth (18 years and under) $5 anywhere/anytime. Tickets available at Village Liquor Store. And remember! Adults accompanied by a child (13 and under) pay only $10. Just show up at the door.
