Meditations, Leah Hokanson, pianist
Meditations are improvised solo piano pieces compiled from several hours of playing in The Phoenix Auditorium with the ‘record’ button pushed. I wanted to create (through allowing as much time and space as possible) a calm environment; wondering what might happen – how the music might emerge.
Some meditations draw on melodies that I love, while others are completely free. Some titles reflect what I imagined after the fact, realizing that what is brought to “the moment” is imbued with many sources of inspiration.
